Some years have now passed since the essays below were first published, and I will therefore make two comments here. The first one is that no faults have been observed–everything is correct. But even if that is so some things have happened after the dates given in the text. About this nothing is however written–it should only be said that we are still waiting for the last word. The second comment is that some of the links, for instance to sources, are not working–their destination web pages may have been changed or taken away.

Introduction

In the US color graphics process three judgments against Hakan Lans have been pronounced. The first one came on September 6, 2001, the second one on June 23, 2005, and the third one in October 2006. The first two of these judgments are commented on in essays posted on this website, and all the links are available in the two boxes following immediately after this one. The third judgment is just mentioned in the third box below, which also contains links to some related documents.

The Judgment Reconsidered

Early in the year 2002 Hakan Lans and Uniboard AB filed a motion requiring that the judgment of September 6, 2001, should be reconsidered. On December 23, 2004, Judge John Garrett Penn ordered that the case should be taken up anew. On March 24 of 2005 there should be an evidentiary hearing in the United States District Court for the District of Columbia, and this hearing should be preceded by sworn depositions of both Hakan Lans and his former attorney Louis Mastriani. After the evidentiary hearing post-hearing briefs could be filed until April 29. Now all of these steps are taken. On June 23 this year, 2005, the new judgment was pronounced.

Here is a comment to the new judgment entitled:

The Judgment of the Court of Appeals

The Judgment of June 23, 2005, has been appealed against by Hakan Lans at the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. Here is the document (pdf-file, 5.2 MB). The proceedings in the Court of Appeals took place on October 6, 2006. After less than a week the court pronounced its judgment: the former judgment, the one from 2005, remained in its entirety unchanged. The court did not explain its decision in any way. Here is the judgment.

Hakan Lans's attorney, Christopher R. Wall at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, has given the Swedish paper Ny Teknik an interview in which he says, among other things:

"I am shocked" ... "It seems as if the court had made up its mind already before the hearing".
